Malta 2007

We started out our privately guided tour (read: just us, no old people walking slow) in Mdina, their former capital. The architecture is a blend of a lot of cultures, mainly Arabic and Italian.

We stopped off at a cafe for some of the best chocolate cake in the world. That's our tour guide, Trudy, on the left. After Mdina we checked in to our hotel. Here is the view from our balcony.
The next day I slept in while the boys went to Valletta for another guided tour and to film shots for the TV show. I walked to a nearby bay and took about a million pictures of the colorful boats, called "luzzi". That night we went to different clubs, me to hang out, them to interview people for the TV show.

This is "Popeye Village", so named because it was built as a movie set for the Popeye movie with Robin Williams. Today the village is used as a retreat for work events and also as a kid-friendly attraction.
Next we had a 3-hour lunch by the sea. Then we headed to the northern end of the island where you can see the two other Maltese Islands - Comino and Gozo.
Philippe got a little creative (using his patented sunglasses-in-front-of-the-camera move) in taking pictures of the guys filming. Although it's blurry, it's still worth showing the 1940's buses that are still in use on the island.
Me and our excellent tour guide, Carmen. This ancient fort is now a TGI Fridays. Gotta love it.
